Recycle #1

The trailer's wheels were inflated and the trip made.

It was...interesting to watch the Cat (One of these with a forklift attachment) spear the car through the windows and lift it off the trailer.

Then, with a turn and a roar, it was gone.

The Bobcat was a scant 1.29 tons, unfortunately, and the price per ton dropped a bit.

But it's more money than I had before the three hours' labor, so that's all good.

Recycling Day

At least a couple of my readers have memories (possibly fuzzy) of this 1979 Mercury Bobcat.

It was a fine vehicle in its time, excellent for a mid-80's college student.  Five-speed stick with rear-wheel drive.   An 8-track player.  A sunroof that didn't leak.

I admit that I drove it like the little buggy it was.

Just So You Know

I would have had a QT entry today regardless of the bonecrushing fatigue I'm experiencing.

Alas, it's not to be.

I will have to assume that QT knows just how tired I am and would like me to get some rest.

Confession & Forgiveness

After yesterday, I can barely keep my eyes open.  (Woke up at 3 yesterday afternoon and pit crew is another way of saying wrestling with 3,500 lbs of steel!)

I need sleep.

Busy Day

Get off work at 7:04.

Tee off for nine holes complete with neice, nephew, and father since the kids are "in town" for the week at 7:28.  (Tee shot on the first hole was nearly perfect, but about 10 yards short.  Ninth hole was my first GIR of the year with two consecutive near-perfect six-irons.)

I'm just now going to sleep.

I've got to wake up around 3:30 this afternoon to get over to my cousin's place.  Her daughter is participating in the Hibbing Enduro Races this evening and asked me to be on her pit crew.

Supposedly, I'm good at that sort of thing.

So I will be doing that before going to work tonight.

Have a nice day.

I May Go To A New God

After finding this on Grist:

"For as long as space endures, and for as long as living beings remain, until then may I too abide, to dispel the misery of the world." - Shantideva

If only because someone needs to dispel all of this misery...

Random Thought of the Day

Don't you just hate it when work interferes with your hobbies?

Because BuzzFlash Deserves It

Why you should go there and buy stuff?

Because they need it and because I said so.

(Besides, there's some really good stuff!)

May You Live In Interesting Times

That's the supposedly-ancient Chinese curse.

Or not, of course.

I'm having one of those interesting times that happen here at work this morning.

Posting will happen as posting is allowed.

Teh InterWeb Thing

Jonathan Alter notices the internet:

A reader logging on as KellyB last week posted a comment on a Politico.com story covering the funeral of former White House spokesman Tony Snow: "Rest in peace, Tony. You were a kind, decent soul on this earth for too short a time. May God always watch over your family." But KellyB couldn't resist amending the gracious condolence with this: "Politico.com—The Official Water Carrier of Barack H. Obama's Campaign."

How cordial. After a decade of waiting for the first "Internet election," it's finally here, and we're adrift from all the old-media moorings.

Of course, he then goes on to tell us how vital and necessary the print media is.

Weekends in Northern Minnesota

In case you hadn't noticed, the weather was pretty darn nice this weekend in and around Eveleth, MN.

If that's not reason enough to spend a lot of time in the lake, I don't know what is, and it's not a good place for computers.

Of course, I'm still young enough to try to spend as much time as possible awake, so when it's time to work Sunday night the fatigue can be a bit...overwhelming.

I'll try to be better in the future.

Recommended Viewing

It's one of the few non-cartoon/non-Comedy Central shows that I can actually watch, and the second season starts up tonight: Burn Notice.

Here's a clip to give you an idea about it:

The Countdown Begins

Sweet jebus, this is going to be a good movie:

Frustration

I have actually had a bit of time to work on posts this morning and three times I've lost full pages of work due to...something.

It's kind of like the old joke's punchline - "Jesus saves" - but I don't - at least at the right times...

Ranting and raving will continue, but this is insane for me right now.

Independence Day, 2008

United States of America

As you safely enjoy this years Fourth of July celebration, take some time to read the accompanying Declaration.

In all the post-9/11 talk, we've heard repeatedly that the U.S. Constitution isn't a suicide pact, and that's true.

The Declaration, on the other hand, truly was such a beast.  As Ben Franklin said so eloquently:

We must all hang together, or assuredly we shall all hang separately.

One of Sunday's Projects

With a late-arriving springtime in northern Minnesota, now it's time to get a few projects done.

Yesterday I spent a few hours throwing concrete block around and re-building the fire pit at the family cabin.

Here's the result:

I Can Sort of Remember Sleep

On Thursday, June 5, I woke up a little after 5 PM.

Errands have taken up my morning after work.  My sister's birthday is going to take me on a 240-mile drive.

Fortunately, I only have to drive the first half...

An FYI

Internet issues suck.  I have been without net for seven hours.

A Small Change

If you were to make a comment on one of the posts today, you may notice something like this:

(If you haven't left a comment here before, you may need to be approved by the site owner before your comment will appear. Until then, it won't appear on the entry. Thanks for waiting.)

I could get in to the disgusting and obscene details of just why the site owner (That's ME!) needs to "approve" your comment before it appears, but I'm not going to.

It is not, as my fellow GnostiNews crew put it: (Earl is a) Control freak and dictator!, even as they Godwin themselves right off the bat.

Frankly, I simply need to make sure it's a person typing those comments and that's all.

Feel free to verbally whip and beat me mercilessly.  The comments will appear and be followed by a response.

Sometimes, that response will be "please, sir, may I have another?"  Laughing

A Quick Note

Just to let you know that I will actually be writing some entries instead of simply trying to keep the laughter going.

There are a couple of topics being worked on as you read this and once they are good enough it should dislodge the block currently occupying the space 'twixt my ears...
